Publishing in a time of crisis

Hello, out there.

What a crazy month it’s been for all of us. Businesses are shuttering, people are going into self-isolation (we’ve been staying home and not visiting with anyone since Saturday), and things are getting scary.

But this is exactly the time when those of us who can should keep on keeping on, providing entertainment and stability for others!

To that end, our release schedule remains unchanged, though the focus of distribution may shift. We have prioritized brick & mortar stores from the beginning, and we are committed to their success. While they remain closed, however, it may prove difficult to get books from them. We are making sure that all of our titles are easily obtained from the internet. Please note that it is entirely possible to avoid the A-shaped elephant in the room — you can order electronic copies of our books directly from us. 🙂

Kitra‘s release is more timely than we could have dreamed, a story of forced isolation, of the triumph of teamwork and ingenuity over adversity. We belivee its hopeful message resonates right now. Here is the release schedule:

  • March 30, 2020: Digital release (epub, mobi, pdf, kindle formats)
  • April 13, 2020: Paperback release
  • May 2020: Audio book release

Rediscovery: Science Fiction by Women (1958-1963) has enjoyed tremendous response. It’s been so gratifying to see it sold in hundreds of bookstores across the nation. Again, while the stores may be closed and/or you may (should!) be staying at home as much as possible, it is available digitally. If you haven’t picked up a copy, its fourteen amazing stories will be a nice distraction from the grim outside world! There’s something in there for everyone: comedy, pathos, wonder.

You can also still support your local bookstore by purchasing gift certificates and ordering books during the crisis. Many bookstores have a strong internet presence and are maintaining their communities. Here are all the bookstores we currently work with — there’s probably one near you!

So please hang in there. Together, we’ll make it through to the other side of this crisis. And Journey Press will keep you entertained for the duration!
